The Philippine National Police (PNP) — in partnership with Manny V. Pangilinan-led PLDT and Smart Communications — launches “Text Bato” 24/7 hotline service to cater mobile phone users. It allow citizens to report crimes and concerns directly to PNP chief Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa.
The “Text Bato” project of the PNP Community Relations Group allows local citizens to report crime incidents and law enforcement concerns. Once these reports reach the hotline, the “Text Bato” platform will then response with a confirmation to the sender with “PNPBATO” as unique sender name.
The Philippine National Police will then verify these reports to determine the appropriate actions. This was made possible thanks to the leading telecommunication and Internet services provider PLDT and its mobile subsidiary Smart Communications. The aforementioned companies will provide the text platform and internet connectivity for the “Text Bato” hotline service of the PNP.
Moreover, Smart Communications also assigned a dedicated wireless device for Dela Rosa himself to personally access all the incoming text messages from the senders and even have the option to reply directly to every SMS.
Smart subscribers can send SMS relevant police concerns by typing BATO (space) and your concern then simply send it to 7444-2286.
PLDT and Smart Spokesman, along with Public Affairs Head Ramon Isberto said the telecommunication and ISP company will be committed to help the the national police department in making its services widely accessible to the general public.
Smart’s parent company, PLDT, is also backing up the hotline system by providing internet connectivity at the Text Bato Operations Center providing round-the-clock support for Dela Rosa in verifying the SMS reports.
It should be worth noted that Smart and PLDT disclosed that user identity remains confidential to protect their privacy. The service works in complimentary with the 911 and 8888 emergency hotlines.
