Manila, Philippines — From ten National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) varsity teams, the competition in the Philippines’ oldest athletic association is now down to the top four squads this season, namely, San Beda Red Lions, Arellano Chiefs, Mapua Cardinals and Perpetual Help Altas.

The San Beda Red Lions, which secured the top seed with a playoff victory over the Arellano Chiefs, takes on fourth seed Perpetual Help Atlas in one semifinal bracket. While the number two team Arellano Chiefs collide with the third seed Mapua Cardinals in the other series.

Finishing in the top two after the elimination round of the NCAA Season 92, both the San Beda and Arellano enjoy twice-to-beat advantages in the Final Four.

The Red Lions enter the semifinal round with a four-game winning record, the last one, 80-73, in a playoff berth for the top seed over Chiefs last Tuesday. The victory also kept Red Lions’s winning streak of concluding the elimination round at the top for an 11th year in a row.

“This is a good win because we want to go to the Final Four with momentum,” said San Beda Red Lions head coach Jamike Jarin after securing the top seed.

The Red Lions had the number of Atlas in the elimination round, defeating the Perpetual Help on both contests with an average winning percentage of 13.5 points.

The Perpetual Help Atlas, on the other side of the collegiate league, has had it rough of late, being defeated in its last five contests.

It remains quite dangerous with NCAA Season 92 MVP award contender Bright Akhuetie back in harness after missing the final matchup of their elimination round.

Meanwhile, the Arellano Chiefs is coursing to move on against the Mapua Cardinals as the former admits that will present a challenge to them. Arellano Chiefs is still confident that it can advance to the NCAA Season 92 championship game.

The Game One of San Beda Red Lions versus Perpetual Help Atlas kicks off at 2 P.M. on Friday, September 30, and will be followed by Arellano Chiefs against Mapua Cardinals at 4 o’clock in the afternoon at the Mall of Asia Arena.
