The Adamson University Soaring Falcons shocked the Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles, 62-61, clinching the victory on a crucial game-winning shot with 1.9 seconds time remaining on the clock in the UAAP Season 79 on Saturday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The Soaring Falcons found a plethora of heroes to step up in the triumphant victory in their second in three games. Robbie Manalang managed to put up 10 of his game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter of the contest while Dawn Ochea stepped up on the floor in the last seconds to score his only points on a turnaround.

Meanwhile, Jerrick Ahanmisi and Papi Sarr also played a pivotal roles, contributing 13 points apiece. The Blue Eagles dropped to 2-2 after a heart-breaker defeat to the hands of Adamson.

The ADMU led 61-60 with 10 seconds left and three fouls to give. The Blue Eagles used them effectively as the Falcons ran out of timeouts after the second foul.

Adamson head coach Franz Pumaren brought Ochea into the court and he came up huge, receiving the inbound pass from the sideline and turning around to shoot the ball with only 1.9 remaining on the clock. Adamson got the upper hand early behind another stellar offensive play from Jerrick Ahanmisi, who posted a total nine points on 3-for-3 shooting in just the first quarter of the match.

The Ateneo De Manila struggled in their offensive side in wake of the absence of Aaron Black, who will be out for a couple of weeks due to a foot injury.

The ADMU and Adamson entered the halftime tied at 35 points. The Blue Eagles continued to play hard on defense in the third quarter of the game. With Adamson;s Ahanmisi failing to take a single shot attempt, the Soaring Falcons rallied only 11 points in a the third quarter that saw the ADMU jump out to a 10-point lead, 56-46, thanks to the free throws from Asistio and Mendoza.

However, the ADMU Blue Eagles went silent in the fourth quarter as the varsity team floundered for any form of offense. The Ateneo finished with a measly five points in the final period but nearly pulled through despite an entertaining yet crucial game from Adamson’s Manalang.
